Hiram Women's Basketball Earns 92-83 NCAC Road Victory at Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio – January 8, 2020 - The Hiram College women's basketball team claimed a 92-83 conference victory over Wooster behind a career game from Madison Branch on Wednesday at Timken Gymnasium.

Branch led all scorers with a career-high 32 points. The junior guard also added five assists and two rebounds.

Hiram played unselfish basketball throughout the evening's contest, registering 17 assists and shooting over 50 percent from the floor. Five different players totaled at least eight points, while four Terriers tallied double-digits in the effort.

Three other Hiram players that joined Branch in double figures including junior Tashauna Wright and freshman Haley Thompson with 18 points each, while sophomore Cici Bright pitched in 11 points and a team-high nine boards.

The Terriers took advantage of solid shooting early, stretching their lead to as much as 12 (22-10) off a basket from Branch with 1:20 remaining in the first.

Hiram's defense would keep the Fighting Scots to a game-low 14 points in the initial quarter, finishing the frame up 22-14.

The second quarter was played more closely, with five ties, the last being off a Branch basket with 1:57 left in the quarter (36-36).

The Terriers used a 7-2 swing to keep a 43-38 lead at the halftime break. Branch and Thompson each scored in the run.

Despite the host outscoring Hiram 27-23 in the third quarter, the Terriers kept their advantage with their lead swelling to as big as 13 points (66-53).

Wooster though, closed the quarter with a 12-0 run to cut Hiram's lead to one (66-65).

Inside the last six minutes, the Fighting Scots knotted the score at 74-74 off a three from Jenna Stanton.

The host took the lead off back-to-back layups (78-74) before Thompson hit a three to cut their lead to one (78-77).

Wooster would hold their last lead of the game with a pair of shots from the free-throw line (80-77).

The Terriers finished the game with a 15-3 run cementing their 92-83 win.

Hiram returns home on Wednesday, Jan. 15, as they host Allegheny. The matchup with the Gators is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
