Box Score OBERLIN, Ohio - October 29, 2019 – Hiram Terriers women's volleyball won its fourth-consecutive match, sweeping the Oberlin College Yeowomen, 3-0, on Tuesday at Phillips Gymnasium.
Though the Yeowomen served first, Hiram took advantage of an attack error to notch the first point of the opening set. From there, Oberlin and Hiram went back-and-forth till the Terriers trailed 8-7.
The Terriers then scored three-straight, forcing an Oberlin timeout. And while the Yeowomen scored the first point of out the timeout, Hiram added two more to extend their lead to 13-8. And after Oberlin cut Hiram's lead to three, the Terriers went on a 7-0 run on Mackenzie Brannon's serve to take a 21-10 lead, and a 4-2 run following a quick Yeowomen kill to take the first set, 25-13.
Up 3-2 in the second set, the Terriers fell behind 10-6 on an 8-3 run by the Yeowomen. But Hiram responded with a run of their own, scoring five-straight on Jaya Martin's serve to take an 11-10 lead.
Oberlin tied the match at 11 and again at 12, before Hiram jumped ahead with two quick points on kills by Kiara Franks and Kayla Cole. The Yeowomen came back to tie the match at 17 and take an 18-17 lead, but the Terriers scored four-straight, and eight of the next nine points to put the set away, 25-19, and take a 2-0 lead.
After the Yeowomen opened the third set with an early lead, Hiram rallied to tie the set, knotting the score at 12-12 with a pair of kills from Melina Lee to force an Oberlin timeout. The Yeowomen rallied to take a two-point lead, but again Hiram tied things up and this time, took the lead on a pair of kills from Franks to force Oberlin to use their final timeout.
Lindsey Stahl's service ace made it 19-16, and after the Yeowomen pulled within two, Hiram scored four-straight to solidify a six-point lead, 23-17. Oberlin would pull within four, but Lindsey Walker finished off the match with her tenth kill of the night to give the Terriers a 25-19 set and 3-0 match victory.
With their fourth-straight win, the Terriers move to 16-11 (4-4 NCAC) on the year, while the Yeowomen drop to 9-14 (1-7 NCAC).
Cole (12 kills, 11 digs) and Walker (10 kills, 14 digs) each tallied double-doubles, while Madison Burns notched a season-high 32 assists.
Defensively, Mackenzie Brannon tallied a game-high 18 digs, while adding five assists and two service aces.
The Terriers will next wrap up the regular season with a non-conference matchup against No. 19 Carnegie Mellon on Friday, Nov. 1 at 3:00 p.m. at Skibo Gymnasium in Pittsburgh, Pa.
