Box Score MEADVILLE, Pa. - October 23, 2019 – Hiram women's volleyball picked up their second-straight conference win, sweeping the Allegheny College Gators, 3-0, on Wednesday at the David V. Wise Center.
Down a point, 7-6, early on in the first set, Hiram scored four-straight points on a pair of kills and two Lindsey Walker aces, to force an Allegheny timeout. Walker, though, came right back with another ace following the timeout to extend the Terriers' lead to 11-7.
The Gators slowed the Terriers roll with a pair of kills from Kristiana Hardisty, but Hiram came right back with another run to take a 17-10 lead.
The Terriers scored six of the next seven, and 10 of the next 14 points to open up a 21-13 lead, before finishing off the first set, 25-17 victory with a kill from Melina Lee.
Hiram opened the second set with a huge run, racing out to an 8-3 lead to force an Allegheny timeout. After a quick point from the Gators, the Terriers continued their run, stretching the lead out to 18-6.
Allegheny cut Hiram's lead down to nine with a quick 3-0 run, but the Terriers finished off the set with a 7-4 run to take the set, 25-13 and take a 2-0 lead.
And in the third set, the Terriers again surged out to a giant lead, scoring nine-straight points after the Gators scored two to open the set to take a 9-2 lead.
The Gators cut the deficit to three, but the Terriers regrouped following a timeout and matched the Gators the rest of the way. Hiram slowed a 4-1 Allegheny run that cut the lead to two with a kill from Kayla Cole, while later, Jaya Martin kept the Gators from cutting Hiram's lead to two with a kill.
A service error gave Hiram match point, and Cole finished off the match with a kill, assisted by Emily Chrustic, to give the Terriers a 3-0 victory.
With the win, the Terriers move to 14-11 (2-4 NCAC), while Allegheny drops to 5-18 (0-6 NCAC).
Kiara Franks and Lee each led the Terriers with nine kills, while Chrustic recorded a game-high 34 assists.
Defensively, Mackenzie Brannon tallied a team-high 22 digs, while Martin led the way with three blocks.
The Terriers will look to make it three-straight conference victories when they return to Price Gymnasium for Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1:00 p.m. against the College of Wooster.
