Oct.13- The Hiram College swimming & diving teams opened their 2018-2019 season under first-year head coach
Matt Sorrick with their meet against Alma College on Saturday afternoon.
The men's and women's team competed in 26 events finishing with a combined score of 120 (74-46).
On the men's side, Eli Skaggs led the group with first place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.80), and the 100-yard IM (1:00.89). Skaggs didn't stop there he also tallied a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (52.67).
Hiram's next win of the night was in the 50-yard breaststroke behind a 30.10 time from senior
Reeve Bowling. Bowling also posted another pair of second-place performances in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.65), and 50-yard freestyle (24.45).
Senior
Michael Barber swam a second-place time of 12:07.91 in the 1000-yard freestyle.
The 50-yard backstroke had a heavy Hiram presence with Barber, freshman
Devin Gear, and junior Paul Muehleisen finishing second, third, and fourth respectively.
Sophomore
Darien Street placed third in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.89. Street also took second in the100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:08.35.
On the women's side, junior
Jenna Nelson led the Terrier pack with a victory in the 1000-yard freestyle in 12:18.35, coming in over ten seconds faster than the next swimmer. Nelson finished the competition with a third-place finish in the 50-yard breaststroke in 37.51.
Freshman
Carlee Lisser made her collegiate debut swimming a second-place time in three different events. Lisser started with the 200-yard freestyle (2:15.12), then the 500-yard freestyle (5:55.24) and wrapped up the afternoon with the 100-yard IM in 1:11.49
Hiram will return to the pool for their first home meet on Saturday, Oct. 20 against The University of Mount Union. The meet is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
