GRANVILLE, Ohio -- The Hiram College men's lacrosse team fell to No. 4-ranked Denison by a 28-4 score on Tuesday evening.
The Terriers fall to 1-8 on the season and 0-4 in the NCAC, while the Big Red improve to 9-1 and remain perfect in conference play at 3-0.
Senior Garet Johnston (Kent, Ohio/Wooster) scored twice to lead the Hiram offense. Senior Greg Summers (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Mary's) and senior Chris Lekan (North Olmsted, Ohio/Holy Name) also scored.
Denison opened the scoring in the game, finding the back of the net twice in the first five minutes to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
Hiram would answer with a man-up goal from Summers at the 9:51 mark. Johnston scored just over three minutes later to tie the score at 2-2.
But the Big Red would sieze control from there, scoring five straight goals to close out the first quarter and adding 10 unanswered goals in the second to take a 17-2 lead.
Johnston was able to score just 35 seconds into the third quarter and Lekan added his goal with 11:22 remaining in the contest.
Senior Sawyer Lott (Sunbury, Ohio/Big Walnut) made 13 stops in goal.
Hiram will be back at it on Saturday, April 9 with a 1 p.m. contest against Wabash (Ind.). The Terriers will also honor their seniors before the contest.
