Summers eclipses 100 career points in Men's Lacrosse 17-6 victory over Cleary (Mich.)

HIRAM, Ohio -- Senior Greg Summers (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Mary's) became the first player in program history to reach 100 career points, as the Hiram College men's lacrosse team topped Cleary (Mich.) 17-6 on Thursday night.

Summers finished the game with four goals and two assists, giving him 102 career points (81 goals, 21 assists), which is also a program record. His six points on the night now give him a total of 32 on the season, which also broke the single-season record of 29 he set last year.

In addition, Summers fourth goal of the evening game him 23 on the season, which ties the single-season mark he set last season.

Senior Chris Lekan (North Olmsted, Ohio/Holy Name) and sophomore Justin Dionne (Orlando, Fla./Timber Creek) each registered a career-high four goals in the contest.

Hiram (2-9) got out to a hot start, scoring the first four goals of the contest, to build a 4-0 lead with 7:25 left in the first quarter.

The Cougars (1-7) countered with two goals, but Summers scored with 39 seconds left in the frame to give the Terriers a 5-2 edge after one period.

The Terriers would outscore Cleary 3-2 on the second quarter, getting goals from Dionne, Lekan and Summers. The goal by Summers came with just one second left in the opening half and gave Hiram a 8-4 lead heading into the intermission.

Hiram would pull away in the third quarter, scoring the first four goals to take a 11-4 edge. Lekan tallied two goals, while Dionne and Summers added one in the four goal spurt.

Cleary would answer with a goal, but sophomore Jonah Austin (Tecumseh, Mich./Tecumseh) and Dionne scored less than a minute apart to give the Terriers a 14-5 lead through three periods.

The Cougars opened the scoring in the fourth quarter, but Hiram would score the final three goals of the night. Lekan found the back of the net for the fourth time and sophomore Nick Rollason (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) would register his second goal of the evening. Junior Charley Haley (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) also recorded his first score of the season.

In goal, senior Sawyer Lott (Sunbury, Ohio/Big Walnut) and senior Mike Malloy (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) each made three saves.

The Terriers took a season-high 55 shots and won 23-of-26 faceoffs, thanks to a 19-of-22 effort from Haley.

Hiram will return to NCAC play on Saturday, April 16, with a 1 p.m. road contest at DePauw (Ind.).
