HIRAM, Ohio -- Sophomore Nick Rollason (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) tied a program record with six goals, as the Hiram College men's lacrosse team topped Franciscan 13-10 on Wednesday evening.
The Terriers are now 1-5 on the season, while the Barons drop to 3-4.
Rollason's six scores tied teammate Greg Summers (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Mary's) record of six, set back in the 2013 season.
Summers added three scores and an assist and sophomore Evan Pinney (Richfield, Ohio/Revere) also tallied a hat trick.
Franciscan opened the scoring at the 10:24 mark, but Hiram knotted the score at 1-1 on a goal by senior Garet Johnston (Kent, Ohio/Wooster) with 6:47 left in the first quarter.
It took the Terriers just 35 seconds to gain the lead, getting a score from Pinney, to jump in front 2-1.
The Barons tied the game at 2, but a late goal from Summers gave Hiram a 3-2 edge after one period of play.
In the second, Franciscan scored two goals just 13 seconds apart to jump in front 4-3.
The Terriers answered with three goals, with two coming from Rollason and one from Pinney, to take a 6-4 lead.
Hiram would take a 6-5 lead into the intermission.
After the Barons tied the score early in the third, the Terriers got two goals from Rollason and one from Summers to open a 9-6 lead with 11:57 left in the period.
Franciscan answered with a score, but Hiram closed out the stanza with two goals, one by Summers and another from Pinney, to hold a 11-7 advantage after three quarters.
In the fourth, Franciscan scored twice to pull within 11-9, but Rollanson would respond with his final two goals of the contest to give Hiram an 13-9 lead and put the game away.
Senior Sawyer Lott (Sunbury, Ohio/Big Walnut) posted a season-high 17 saves in goal.
The Barons held a 39-34 edge in shots.
The Terriers will be back at it on Saturday, March 26, as they return to conference play by hosting Wooster at 1 p.m.
