BEREA, Ohio -- The Hiram College volleyball team swept Thiel (Pa.) and Buffalo State (N.Y.) to cap off a perfect 4-0 weekend at the Marcia French Memorial Invitational, hosted by Baldwin Wallace.
The Terriers, who were one of two teams to go undefeated on the weekend, are now 6-3 on the season.
In the match versus Thiel (0-7), senior Lindsay Brewer (New Franklin, Ohio/Manchester) recorded 13 kills with a .375 hitting percentage.
Junior Marissa Jay (Parma, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) finished with eight kills and seven digs and junior Laura Kelly (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) recorded a match-high 15 kills.
With the scored tied at 3-3 in the opening set, Hiram reeled off three points, with junior Megan Schaefer (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) posting two service aces.
The Terriers used a 7-0 run to late in the set to blow it open en route to a 25-14 victory.
In the second set, Hiram scored the first four points and built an early 9-2 lead, never looking back and winning the set 25-12.
In the third set, the Terriers broked a 7-7 tie by scoring six straight points, with kills from junior Claire Maier (Huntsville, Ohio/Indian Lake), Jay and Lindsay Brewer during the run.
Hiram would not let the Tomcats get within six points the rest of the set, posting a 25-12 victory.
The Terriers had 35 kills as a team and hit .235, while Thiel had 15 kills and posted a -.122 hitting percentage.
Against Buffalo State (5-4), Lindsay Brewer posted a double-double with 16 digs and 15 kills. Both senior Katie Barton (Newbury, Ohio) and Jay finished with nine kills apiece.
Maier dished out 39 assists and Kelly added 18 digs.
Hiram wasted no time in the opening set, jumping out to a 13-2 lead. The Terriers would never allow Buffalo State to get within 10, winning the set 25-12.
In the second set, the Terriers used a 7-0 run midway through the set to take control and build a 19-11 lead. A kill by Lindsay Brewer would close out the set by a 25-16 count.
In the third set, Buffalo State captured the first four points, before Hiram won five of the next six to tie the score at 5-5.
The Bengals would open a 15-11 lead, but the Terriers would use a 8-0 run to take a 19-15 lead.
Hiram would never trail again, closing out the set and match by a 25-20 count.
For her efforts on the weekend, Lindsay Brewer was named to her second straight All-Tournament Team.
Hiram will return to action on Tuesday, when it hosts Penn State-Behrend in a non-conference contest at 7 p.m.
