Balanced offensive attack leads Volleyball to 3-0 sweep of Kenyon

HIRAM, Ohio -- Five players had at least eight kills as the Hiram College volleyball team posted a 25-19, 25-19, 25-15 victory over Kenyon in a NCAC tilt on Saturday afternoon.

The Terriers push their record to 14-5 on the season and 3-1 in the NCAC, while the Ladies fall to 6-8, 0-4.

Senior Lindsay Brewer (New Franklin, Ohio/Manchester) had a team-high 11 kills and 10 digs.

Senior Logan Brewer (New Franklin, Ohio/Manchester), senior Katie Barton (Newbury, Ohio) and senior Emily Mortimer (Mogadore, Ohio/Field) each had nine kills and junior Marissa Jay (Parma, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) added eight. Logan Brewer's nine kills were a new season-best.

A kill by Logan Brewer allowed Hiram to open up a early 7-2 lead in the opening frame. Kenyon would pull to within 7-5, before the Terriers answered with two straight points.

The Terriers would hold the lead the rest of the set and won four of the final five points of the frame, capped off on a kill by Lindsay Brewer to win it 25-19.

In the second set, the Ladies were able to open a early 9-8 advantage, before Hiram reeled off four points to take a 12-9 lead. Kenyon would get within one at 14-13, but another quick four point spurt for the Terriers gave them a 18-13 lead.

Two straight service aces by Jay capped off a five point run and gave Set 2 to Hiram by a 25-19 count.

Hiram was able to build an early lead in the third frame and held a 16-14 lead.  From there, the Terriers won nine of the final 10 points of the match, to clinch the set and match 25-15.

Junior Claire Maier (Huntsville, Ohio/Indian Lake) had 41 assists in the victory, with junior Laura Kelly (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) and junior Megan Schaefer (Elyria, Ohio) finishing with nine and eight digs on defense, respectively.

Delaney Swanson led the Kenyon offensive attack with a match-high 15 kills.

Hiram hit a sizzling .441 in the win, recording 50 kills against just nine errors.

The Terriers will take a few days off and will play next on October 10 at Denison. The contest is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
