MEADVILLE, PA. -- Four players scored in double figures, but the Hiram College women's basketball team fell at Allegheny (Pa.) 83-73 on Wednesday evening.
The Terriers are now 4-10 on the season and 0-5 in NCAC play, while the Gators improve to 11-3, 4-1.
Senior Kelsey Koskinen (Madison) led Hiram with 18 points.
Freshman Mercedes Jones (Dayton/Ponitz Career Technology Center) added 16 points and seven rebounds.
Sophomore Kayla Yost (Norwalk/Perkins) had 13 points and eight rebounds and freshman Kaylee Shockley (Uniontown/Lake) scored a career-high 12 points off the bench.
Emma Pellicano led five Gators in double figure scoring with a game-high 22 points.
A layup by Jones gave Hiram a early 7-6 lead.
The Gators would score the next four points before a free throw from Jones tied the score at 10-10.
Allegheny would then go on a 20-3 run to open up a 30-13 lead with 5:01 left in the first half.
The Gators took a 41-21 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Terriers used an early 7-0 run, capped off by a Jones jumper, to trim the deficit to 50-38 with just over 16 minutes to go.
Allegheny countered with a 12-4 to open up a 62-42 lead with 8:58 left.
Hiram would continue to chip away at the deficit, but could get no closer than 10 points the rest of the game.
The Terriers finished the game 25-of-68 (36.8 percent) in shooting and were 9-of-20 (45.0 percent) in 3-pointers, while Allegheny was 34-of-78 (43.6 percent) and 3-of-13 (23.1 percent) from beyond the arc.
The Terriers held a slim 49-48 edge in rebouding, but the Gators owned a 54-22 advantage in points in the paint.
Hiram has completed its seven-game road trip and will return to action on Saturday with a home game against Oberlin. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
