OBERLIN, OHIO  --  The Hiram College women's basketball team ended a four-game losing streak with a 70-58 win against Oberlin College in a North Coast Athletic Conference game in Oberlin.

Hiram (7-13, 2-9 NCAC) opened the game with a 7-0 scoring run with five of the seven points scored by junior guard/forward Alexis Kemper (Centerville).  Oberlin (8-12, 3-8 NCAC) answered with an ensuing 7-2 run of its own to make it a one-possession game, 9-7, at the 15:05 minute mark.  The Terriers did not give up the lead and extended the margin with seven unanswered points to go up by nine, 16-7, with 13:49 left in the period.  Hiram went on to lead by as many as 10 points in the half, 22-12, following a triple by sophomore guard Kelsey Koskinen (Madison) and the Terriers took a five-point advantage into the locker rooms with a halftime score, 27-22.

Oberlin made a run early in the second half outscoring Hiram, 7-2, to even the score at 29-29.  Hiram regained the lead shortly after with a layup by junior guard Danielle Day (Newbury) and the Terriers never relinquished the lead the rest of the way.  The Yeowomen stayed within striking distance, but a mini 5-0 run by Hiram near the midway point of the half, gave the Terriers some breathing room, 45-37, with 11:34 to go.  Hiram then began to pull away with a series of scoring runs and recorded its largest lead of the game of 14 points on two occasions, including a score of 70-56 with just under a minute left in the game following two free-throws by Day.  The Yeowomen tallied the final points of the game, but the Terriers would go on to claim the 70-58 victory.

Oberlin shot just 29.7 percent (19-of-64) as a team and committed 23 turnovers in the game.  The Yeowomen were led by Christina Marquette with a game-high 17 points on seven-of-17 shooting (41.2 percent).  She also grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.  Caroline Hamilton was second in scoring with 15 points and Malisa Hoak added 11 points.

Hiram finished the game shooting 38.6 percent from the field (22-of-57) and had four players score in double figures.  The duo of Day and Kemper paced the Terriers each scoring 14 points.  Day also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.  Koskinen ended the game with 13 points and senior guard Calysia Smyers (Akron/Coventry) rounded out the high scorers with 11 points.

Hiram will play back-to-back games this weekend beginning with a NCAC game against Wittenberg University on Friday, Feb. 1 at Price Gymnasium.  Tip-off is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
