Hiram, Ohio – September 7, 2026 – Sofia Smotek of women's volleyball and Dylan Hargas of football were selected to be the Terriers of the Week in the first edition of the 2026 school year. This comes after impressive performances by each student-athlete which helped lead to victories for both teams.
Smotek was outstanding in Hiram's five matches from this past week, recording 79 total kills across all games. Smotek began the season on Tuesday night against Oberlin, where she tallied 13 kills and 9 digs. The sophomore would then go into the Great Lakes Cross Over, where Smotek would go on a tear during the weekend, recording 13 or more kills in each game. Smotek's highest kill game came against Heidelberg, where she would finish with 21 kills and also add 10 digs. Overall, the sophomore from Independence, OH was a huge part in Hiram's four victories this past week, and Smotek will look to carry the momentum into the next game, when they will travel to Marietta College on Tuesday, September 8th.
Hargas played a huge role in the offense for Hiram in their dominant 33-2 victory over Oberlin on Saturday, recording 7 catches for 80 yards. The junior also added a touchdown reception as well, as he led the team in every receiving category. The junior from Willowick, OH averaged 11.43 yards per catch, with a long catch of 29 yards, showing his ability on the offensive side of the ball. Hargas has been a primary target in the offense, and his play at the tight end position has elevated his role into one of the top threats in the Terrier offense. Hargas and the Terrier football team will be back in action on Saturday, September 12th, when they will welcome Manchester University to Henry Field.
