HIRAM, Ohio - September 11, 2026 - Hiram fell to Case Western Reserve in three sets to start off its three-match trip to Cleveland, OH on Friday night: 25-21, 27-25, 25-12.
The Terriers played some of their best volleyball in the second set, when they trailed 24-17 — Hiram responded with an 8-0 to hold an one point lead. The run was led by Rebecca Volpe who tallied two kills and a block. A service ace by Maggie Riley put the Terriers up one. The Spartans answered the rally with one of its own, scoring three straight points to win the set.
Hiram also played the opposition close in the opening set. The Spartans jumped out to a 7-2 lead, however, the Terriers were able to cut into the score throughout the set — finding themselves down 21-20 before Case Western Reserve found its form. The Spartans closed the set on a 4-1 run on their home court. Despite only seven kills in the set, it was Hiram's defense that kept them in the set forcing Case Western Reserve to six attacking errors — its most of the game.
Despite the loss, the Terriers again kept pace with their opposition in the first two sets, staying within striking distance thanks to a balanced offense.
Megan Chiang led the team with nine kills and 11 digs. Courtney Johnson tallied 12 assists and two service aces while Riley led the team with three service aces.
The Terriers will return to the court on Saturday, when they travel back to Cleveland, OH for non-conference battles with Nazareth at 10 a.m. and Colorado College at 12 p.m. as part of the CWRU Quad Tournament.
