Terriers Split Day 2 Of CWRU Quad

Hiram Finishes 1-2 On Weekend Facing Tough Competition

CLEVELAND, Ohio - September 12, 2026 — Hiram wrapped up the CWRU Quad Tournament on Saturday afternoon, splitting a doubleheader against Nazareth and Colorado College. The Terriers swept Nazareth in dominating fashion, winning 25-14, 25-15, 25-14 before falling to Colorado College in three sets: 25-17, 26-24, 25-19. 

Nazareth 

Megan Chiang led Hiram's offense with 10 kills on 19 attacks, while also recording four service aces. She finished with a team-high 14 points. Maggie Riley added six kills and three aces. 
Sofia Smotek also had six kills, while Courtney Johnson finished with five kills, eight digs, and nine assists. Jacey English helped on defense with a team-high 11 digs.  

The opening set started out with back-and-forth action with the score knotted at 14-14. The Terriers closed the set on a commanding 11-0 run. Riley and Johnson spearheaded the run as Riley tallied a kill and three service aces. Johnson, a setter, tallied three kills of her own on the run.  

Hiram stayed steady in set two – jumping out to a 9-4 lead. The Terriers led by at least five points throughout the set. The team posted a game-high .429 attack percentage with 15 kills to just three errors. It was a balanced effort as six different student athletes recorded a goal.  

Set three was won in favor of the Terriers due to two separate runs of 5-0 and 6-0. Hiram carried their efficient hitting into the last set - totaling 13 kills and just four errors. With the Terrier's holding a comfortable 20-12 lead, they quickly extended the lead to 24-12 as four different student athletes had a kill. 

Colorado College 

Hiram continued its gauntlet non-conference schedule with a match up to a talented Colorado College team. Despite losing in three sets, Hiram made the Tigers work all three sets.  

Chiang led Hiram again with 13 kills. Smotek added eight kills, while Riley had six kills and two service aces.  Johnson added 18 assists and 11 digs while English added 13 kills for the second consecutive game.  
 
The Terriers hung with the Tigers in the first set – finding themselves down 17-14. However, the Tigers found its form – as its 7-0 run won the set comfortably. 

Hiram had its best chance to take a set in the second. After starting the set on a 7-0 run, Hiram held their lead until the Tigers eventually chipped away – knotting the score at 16-16. They scored an additional four straight points to take a 20-16 lead. Kills by Smotek, Chiang, and Riley tied the score back up at 20-20. Back-and-forth action lasted until the Tigers took the set, 26-24.  

A game-high 19 kills by the Tigers in the third set proved to be too much to overcome for the Terriers. Once again, Hiram played the opposition neck-and-neck, down only 20-18. The Tiger's offense rattled off four kills to seal the set and game. 

Up Next 

Hiram returns home to host Baldwin Wallace on Tuesday evening. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. inside of Price Gymnasium.
