HIRAM, Ohio – May 8, 2026 – The Hiram Athletic Department announced seven of its yearly award-winners on Thursday evening at The Terrier Awards banquet, a celebration of the 2025-26 academic year and all the athletic achievements that came with it.
Included in this year's set of awards is the Charles A. Henry Award (outstanding scholar-athlete from junior class), Helen M. Petroskey Award (female athlete of the year), Donald Campbell Award (male athlete of the year), Dave Bishoff Award (newcomer of the year), PAC Scholar-Athletes of the Year and the Herbert C. Matthew Award (athlete who has overcome significant obstacles while at Hiram College).
Hiram's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee distributed each of these awards on the campus of Hiram College after the Terriers head coaches and administration nominated and voted for the honors over the past few weeks.
Sam Volpe of the track & field team was selected as the winner of the Charles A. Henry Award, an honor that recognizes significant achievement both in the classroom and during competition. Volpe has shined as an education major who holds the Hiram program records in the shot put (indoor and outdoor), hammer throw (outdoor) and discus (outdoor). She earned three different all-conference awards at this year's PAC Outdoor Championships and has a chance to qualify for nationals in the discus this month.
Kelly Hoffman racked up the awards after earning PAC Player of the Year and leading a Terriers team to its best win percentage in a single season in program history this past fall (26-3). Hoffman was named the winner of the Helen M. Petroskey Award, one of the PAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards and the Herbert C. Matthew award. The senior from Streetsboro, OH led the PAC in assists (1,070) and earned a PAC Athlete of the Week award on four different occasions, leading to her first career all-conference honor. An education major who missed the entire 2023 season due to an ACL injury, Hoffman has thrived as a standout student, vocal leader and persevering figure who led the Terriers women's volleyball program to a regular-season championship in the fall of 2025.
Sean Tejeda was selected as the Donald Campbell Award winner following a season that saw him rewrite the record books at the quarterback position. An All-PAC Honorable Mention selection, Tejeda set single-season records in passing yards, passing TD, total yards and total touchdowns, and now holds the career record in passing yards per game. The San Antonio native will be a team captain and tasked with leading the team to an even higher level at the most important position this upcoming fall.
Aidan Shiels earned the second-ever Dave Bishoff Award, climbing his way to the top of the regional rankings in the 800-meter run for both the indoor and outdoor seasons in track & field. The Mentor, OH native holds the indoor and outdoor program records for that event, and earned first place at each of the PAC Championship meets for those respective seasons, too. Also a member of the record-setting 4x400 relay team during the indoor season – a group that holds the best mark in the history of the PAC Championship – Shiels will now look to punctuate his season with a shot at advancing to nationals in the outdoor 800.
Liam O'Brien earned the other PAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, joining Hoffman as Hiram's two invitees to the annual PAC Scholar Athlete banquet this upcoming Tuesday in Aliquippa, PA. A biochemistry major and two-time CSC Academic All-District selection, O'Brien started every game this past season for the men's soccer program, serving a critical role at a position that doesn't get all the acclaim or statistical recognition. The Hartford, OH native is set to be a team captain for his senior season while still making an impact throughout the Hiram College campus as a math and science tutor, as well as one of the College's Biochemistry Students of the Year.
Hiram Track & Field still has plenty more to come for the remainder of the 2025-26 academic year, while the rest of the Terriers varsity teams will take the next few months to enjoy the summer ahead of a highly anticipated 2026-27 season.
