HIRAM, Ohio – April 8, 2026 - Hiram found its form at the plate in the first game of a doubleheader at Chatham University, as the team tallied 12 runs on eight hits in a 12-1 victory to open up a doubleheader against the Cougars on Thursday evening.
The Terriers lost Game 2, 6-3, despite an eight-hit effort and late comeback attempt. That production proved to be no fluke, as it turned into a major offensive outburst in Game 2, with Hiram ending the night on a high note ahead of an upcoming week that includes eight games in seven days.
Game 1 Recap
After over a week of suspended and postponed games, the Terriers came into the contest eager to hit the ball, scoring seven runs over the first three innings, with most of the damage coming in the third inning. Seven straight batters reached base to start the third frame — including a three-run home run from Hannah Marlow. Marlow led Hiram, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and now having a total of four home runs on the season.
Haven Papineau arguably had her best game of the season with two hits and two RBI. Papineau capped Hiram's scoring outburst with a two-run double to make the score 12-0 in the fifth inning.
Yasmine Clark pitched a complete game in the circle, picking up her first win of the season. Clark had a shutout brewing before Chatham knocked in a solo home run moments before the last out of the game.
Game 2 Recap
The Hiram bats made a late-game effort in Game 2, but were ultimately stymied with a deficit that was too much to overcome.
Lola Thomas tripled to right field in the top of the first inning, setting Megan Moser up with a sacrifice bunt opportunity to open a 1-0 lead. Chatham responded with three runs of its own to close the first.
A rally came in the fourth inning as Marlow walked, Daynna Mekaru singled, and Emrie Fink reached base by an error. Chatham narrowly escaped the inning unharmed.
Moser initiated the late-game rally with an RBI single. Marlow continued her hot streak with an RBI single of her own, knocking in Moser. With an infield single, Mekaru loaded the bases, but Chatham escaped a Hiram rally for the second time in the game.
Hiram out-hit Chatham, 8-6, but the difference-maker was Hiram leaving 10 on base compared to the Cougars four.
Clark and Sarah Ciereszewski showed promises out of the bullpen, as the duo combined for 3.2 IP, 2 H, and 4 SO.
