Gallentine Walks It Off To Cap Off Sweep Against Grove City

Terriers Sweep Wolverines With Final Scores Of 2-1 And 5-4

HIRAM, Ohio – April 8, 2026 – The Hiram Terrier baseball team welcomed the Grove City College Wolverines to Proverbs Park on Wednesday afternoon, with both teams jockeying for position in the PAC title race. The Terriers held their ground against the Wolverines, earning victories in a pitcher's duel, 2-1, and in walk-off fashion, 5-4.

With the two wins, Hiram is now 5-5 in PAC play and has sole possession of sixth place in the PAC standings.

Game 1 Recap

Grove City started the scoring early in the top of the first, jumping out to an early 1-0 lead. The Terriers wouldn't stay down long though, when Logan Gallentine singled to left field, scoring Kian Drummonds and tying the game up.

Both teams would remain in a pitching duel for the rest of the game, with neither team budging. The Terriers would break the scoring drought in the bottom of the sixth, when Gallentine and John Bender executed a perfect double-steal, scoring Gallentine. That run would eventually be the deciding one, as the Terriers would hold on for a two-run victory.

Having an outstanding day on the mound for Hiram was Nicolas Chernitsky, who went 6.1 innings, giving up six hits and one earned run on 106 pitches while also throwing seven strikeouts. Chernitsky earned the victory in a very impressive effort.

Coming in relief of Chernitsky was Owen Cooper and Cody Horvath, who shut down the Wolverines. Horvath earned the save and secured a decisive victory for the Terriers.

Game 2 Recap

The Wolverines would once again start the scoring against Hiram, this time jumping out to a 3-0 lead. It was up to the Terriers to respond again, and they did just that.

Hiram opened its scoring up in the bottom of the fourth, when Drew Mason hit a huge single to center field, scoring Andrew Fawver and Matthew Trimble and cutting the deficit to just one. The Terriers kept the scoring up in the seventh, when John Bender pinch-hit for Brady Isgro and proceeded to hit a go-ahead two-run home run down the left-field line to give Hiram the 4-3 lead.

The Wolverines would then respond in the top of the eighth, knotting things back up at 4-4 leading into the ninth.

In the top half of the ninth, Grove City was threatening with men on first and third base, when Bender made a huge diving catch, and then he threw out the runner at third for a huge "7-5" double play to end the top of the ninth.

The Terriers then got on base early in the bottom of the ninth, when Brady Trem reached on an error by the shortstop, putting Trem on second base with nobody out. Ben Yoder would then single on a bunt, advancing Trem to third. Gallentine then stepped up, and smashed a single to left field to score Trem and walk the game off in celebratory fashion.

Shea Sievers and Andrew Pawley had an outstanding day on the mound, with Sievers throwing six innings on 88 pitches, giving up three earned runs and throwing two strikeouts. Pawley then came in and earned the win, throwing three innings, giving up three hits on one earned run on 35 pitches.

What's Next

The Terriers will be back in action on Saturday, when they travel to Washington, PA for a doubleheader matchup with W&J, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
