HIRAM, Ohio – April 22, 2026- The Hiram Terrier baseball team welcomed the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes for a Wednesday afternoon doubleheader. The Terriers fell in the first game 7-3, but fought back to win the second game 15-6.
Game 1 Recap
The Golden Tornadoes opened the scoring in the first game of the doubleheader, hitting a three-run home run in the top of the second to take the 3-0 lead. Hiram then answered in the fourth, when Walter Argrett singled to score Luke Snider and cut the deficit to 3-1. Geneva added one more before Hiram scored two in the bottom of the sixth, first on a Matthew Trimble single to score Logan Gallentine and make the score 4-2. John Bender then tallied one more, when he singled to right field, making the score 4-3. Geneva answered with three more runs, which was enough to secure the victory.
Nicolas Chernitsky was the starter for Hiram, throwing six innings with eight strikeouts on 103 pitches. Andrew Pawley and Caleb Shreve combined to throw the final three innings, totaling 70 pitches in those three innings.
Game 2 Recap
Geneva may have scored first in the second game, taking an early 1-0 lead, but Hiram responded with eight runs in the second. Brady Trem reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Matthew Trimble. Then Kian Drummonds singled, Logan Gallentine walked, and Luke Snider singled, all to take a 5-1 lead. Trimble stepped up again in the inning and belt a no-doubter of a home run to left field, scoring three and making the score 8-1.
The Terriers weren't done.
Geneva responded to cut the deficit to four, but then John Bender stepped up in the fourth and hit a two-run homer to make it 10-4. Argrett then slapped a single to center field to score two in the bottom of the sixth and extend the lead. The Terriers totaled three insurance runs in the eighth to extend the lead to nine and holding on for the victory, 15-6.
The duo of Shea Sievers, Tyler Leasure, and Cody Horvath were outstanding on Wednesday, combining for nine strikeouts and just six earned runs allowed over 201 pitches.

Hiram will be back in action on Thursday, when they travel to Oberlin College for a 4 p.m. first pitch.
