Hiram Bats Catch Fire In Game 2 vs Waynesburg

Terriers Split Doubleheader With Yellow Jackets, Maintain Positioning In PAC Playoff Race

HIRAM, Ohio – April 19, 2026 — Hiram split a Sunday afternoon doubleheader with Waynesburg University with a 5-3 loss in Game 1 before rebounding in Game 2 to take a commanding 11-3 (6 inn) win.

Waynesburg and Hiram sit in fourth and fifth place respectively in the PAC standings. With the top-six teams making the postseason tournament, taking at least one game against the Yellow Jackets was pivotal as Hiram still must travel to Grove City, who sit a game back from the Terriers.

Game 1 Recap

Hiram led 3-2 when it struck for three runs off six hits in the fourth and fifth innings combined.

Danielle Robles broke up Waynesburg's perfect game in the fourth with a hard-hit single down the left-field line. Robles advanced to third base off a stolen base and wild pitch. Kayla Prigge singled up the middle to score Robles and knot the game at 1-1.

Avery Contini started the action in the fifth inning with an RBI single to re-tie the score at 2-2. Ari Torres and Robles hit a pair of singles to load the bases, then Megan Moser put together a competitive at-bat, earning a walk and RBI.

Waynesburg tied the game quickly in the sixth before adding two more runs to close out the game.

Contini pitched a complete game in the circle for the Terriers. The first-year recorded three strikeouts, tied for her most in a game this season.

Game 2 Recap

The Terriers bats were clicking on all cylinders in Game 2, as the team tallied 13 hits, their second-highest mark of the season.

Like Game 1, Hiram did most of its damage in the middle of the game, scoring nine of their 11 runs in the third and fourth innings.

Moser and Prigge both reached base to start the third -- followed by Daynna Mekaru reaching base off a fielder's choice to load the bases. Contini stepped to the plate in a pinch-hitting scenario and delivered a two-run single up the middle.

Hannah Schimmoeller went opposite field with a two-run triple followed by Yasmine Clark's RBI single to carve out a 5-1 lead. Clark's RBI marks her first RBI and hit in a Hiram uniform. The junior also delivered the RBI single in the sixth inning to put the "mercy rule" in effect and end the game.

The fourth inning burst mirrored the previous scoring pattern as Moser and Prigge both reached base to start the inning. This time Mekaru showed off her speed with a two-run triple. Lola Thomas immediately knocked Mekaru in with a base hit through the left side.

Prigge (3), Robles (2), Clark (2), Schimmoeller (2) all recorded multiple hits for the Terriers. Prigge, who went 3-for-4 with three singles, has been a bright spot hitting clean-up this season. Statistically, the junior is ranked as one of the toughest athletes to strike out across all of Division III softball, as she is still yet to strike out on the year.

Clark got it done on both sides of the ball — picking up her eighth win in the circle to move to a game over .500. She finished with a line of 6.0 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 SO.

What's Next

Hiram will finish off a doubleheader with Geneva College on Monday afternoon at Myrtis E. Herndon Field. The second half of the doubleheader was postponed due to weather on 4/14. The Terriers will look to split the series with first pitch set for 4:30 p.m.
