WAYNESBURG, Pennsylvania - April 18, 2026 - Hiram stayed in form as part of a road PAC doubleheader on Saturday; the Terriers beat Waynesburg in Game 1 (8-3) before claiming a two-run victory in Game 2 (6-4).
With the two wins, Hiram has now swept a PAC opponent on four different occasions this season (also against Franciscan, Grove City and Chatham). The team has a season-best 9-7Â record in PAC play, which ranks sixth in the conference (top-six teams advance to PAC Tournament).
Game 1
Not even 20 minutes had passed before Hiram grabbed a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Logan Gallentine laced an RBI double, Matthew Trimble hit an RBI single, Andrew Fawver drove in two runs on a triple and Brady Trem capped it off with an RBI single of his own. Six of Hiram's 13 hits in the game came in the first inning, giving starting pitcher Tyler Leasure plenty of run support before he even toed the rubber.
Leisure was effective in pitching with a lead, as he finished with a final line of 6.1 IP, 7 H, 3 R/ER, 3 BB, 6 K. The Eastlake, OH product earned the win and improved to 3-2, joining Nicolas Chernitsky (3-2) as the two starting pitchers to have a winning record this season.
Gallentine added a two-run single and a steal attempt with runners at first and third base led to another run scoring, carving out an 8-1 lead for the Terriers. Waynesburg scored two late runs, but Nick Licursi and Jimmy Rey Gonzales both logged scoreless relief appearances to seal the Game 1 win.
Game 2
While the runs came in bunches in Game 1, the offense was more spread out in Game 2, with at least one run scored in 10 different half-innings. The score was tied on four occasions, with the teams continuing to trade one-run innings before the Terriers ultimately held the upperhand.
Kian Drummonds, John Bender and Gallentine each recorded RBI singles through the first four innings, but Waynesburg matched Hiram with three runs of its own. The score was even at 3-3 during that span.
Starter Braeden Kinnaird finished with five innings of four-run ball and the Terriers tacked on two more runs thanks to RBI singles by Trem and Trimble. Kinnaird departed with a tied score, as Chernitsky entered the game for his second relief appearance of the campaign.
Chernitsky did his job with two scoreless innings of relief and Cody Horvath followed with a similar effort in the eighth and ninth frames to preserve Hiram's 5-4 lead. Trem added another RBI single for some insurance, which was enough to help Horvath earn the save and complete the doubleheader sweep.
What's Next
Hiram will get three well-deserved days off before playing at home on Wednesday for a doubleheader against Geneva. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at Proverbs Park.
