Hiram Delivers Clutch Game 1 Win, Splits DH vs W&J

Terriers Get Pair Of Strong Pitching Performances From Clark, Contini vs Presidents

HIRAM, Ohio – April 17, 2026 – Hiram posted a strong effort in a highly competitive doubleheader against Washington & Jefferson on Friday afternoon at Myrtis E. Herndon Field, gutting out a 1-0 win in Game 1 before falling in a slugfest, 9-5, in Game 2.

Yasmine Clark spearheaded the Terriers in Game 1 with a seven-inning shutout; the junior held the opposition to just four hits and retired the side in the last three innings.

In the midst of a pitcher's duel, the Terriers found a late game rally in the sixth inning. The first four batters reached base despite not recording a hit. Lola Thomas knocked in a run of a sac-fly to take a 1-0 advantage. A scrappy sixth was all Hiram needed to add a win to its conference record.

Hannah Marlow provided the team's only hit of the game in the second inning.

The low-scoring affair in Game 1 sparked both offenses in Game 2, as the first inning of play saw seven runs cross the board. The Presidents opened up the game with three runs -- including a two-run home run. Hiram followed up with a four-run inning of its own.

Danielle Robles singled to lead off the Terriers offense. Kayla Prigge reached second base on an error to score Robles. Daynna Mekaru hit a sac-fly to left field with the bases loaded to knock a run through.

Hannah Schimmoeller came to the plate next and singled in the remaining baserunners. Schimmoeller put together an impressive hitting performance with two hits and three RBI. The first-year added the only other run scored for the Terriers with an RBI down the left-field line in the third inning.

The Presidents added two more runs in the seventh, as their 12 hits were too much to overcome for the Terriers. Avery Contini pitched five innings of relief, allowing 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER.

What's Next

Hiram will remain home on Sunday afternoon as it hosts Waynesburg University for a conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
