CLERMONT, Florida - March 9, 2026 - Hiram softball opened the 2026 season on Monday at The Spring Games, a yearly event that brings some of the best talent across Division III to venues throughout the Florida area.
The Terriers dropped both games on Day 1, 15-2 to Mount St. Joseph and 5-1 to Swarthmore, but had many positives to build upon with eight games still remaining in the week.
Game 1 Recap
Hiram found a spark late in its season opener, as Hannah Marlow lifted a two-run homer to the deepest part of the ballpark in the home half of the fifth inning. It marked the second career long ball for the junior, who has a knack for finding her power stroke in Florida.
Ari Torres and Danielle Robles set the table atop the batting order with one hit each, while Megan Moser had a pair of doubles out of the six slot in the batting order. In the circle, Avery Contini allowed just two earned runs over 2.2 innings of relief, which marked her first collegiate appearance.
For MSJ, the Lions scored at least one run in every inning to have a firm grip on the game. The team was coming off a 28-14 overall record this past season.
Game 2 Recap
It was a low-scoring affair in the second game of the twin bill, with Yasmine Clark stepping into the circle for her Hiram pitching debut. The junior from San Diego pitched well, recording a complete game and surrendering just four earned runs for a final line of 6 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 1 K.
Unfortunately for the Terriers, Clark was matched by the opposing pitcher, Lane Barron, who allowed five hits over seven innings of one-run ball. Torres notched her second double in as many games and Lola Thomas ripped an RBI double in the fourth, but the damage was limited to just that one run.
What's Next
Hiram will continue play with a pair of games against Utica at 12:15 p.m. and Case Western Reserve at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Clermont, FL.
