LYNCHBURG, Virginia - March 10, 2026 - Hiram once again found the right combination of offense and defense to pull out a tightly contested non-conference matchup in Virginia, as the Terriers wrapped up their spring break road trip with an 8-7 win over Randolph on Tuesday late afternoon.
The victory gives the Terriers consecutive wins for the first time this season, while also closing out a two-game trip to Virginia on a high note.
Three different Hiram players recorded multiple goals in the victory, including Jack Cook and Connor Randell with three goals each (both career-highs), as well as Kellen Wetz with two goals (tied career-high). Remi DeSmith, the reigning PAC Newcomer of the Week, won over 50% of his faceoffs (9-17), while Aidan Griffin, the reigning PAC Defensive Player of the Week, added another 13 saves in the winning effort.
While Hiram trailed 5-0 before rallying back in its previous game against Averett, the team instead found a way to grab a lead and hold that advantage through the final horn. Randell, Cook and Wetz scored the first three goals in the game to give the Terriers a 3-0 lead, which shaped out to be a 3-1 margin at the end of the first quarter.
Wetz added a man-up goal to give him two goals in a game for the second time this season (also vs Mount Union) before Randell scored again to make it a 5-3 contest. Randolph responded with two goals of its own to force a tie game at the intermission.
Randell kept the foot on the gas pedal by scoring his third goal in the third quarter; all three of Randell's goals were unassisted.
Cook did the rest of the damage, as Randolph tied the game at 6-6 before the sophomore from Hyde Park, NY scored two of the final three goals to regain an 8-7 lead. Randell assisted on the final score, which proved to be the game-winning goal with 6:46 to play.
Randolph was held to zero shots on goal over the last 7:53 of game time, as the Hiram defense forced four turnovers during that span and maintained possession to run the clock and pull out the nail-biter of a win.
Hiram will continue its busy stretch on Thursday, when it returns home for a matchup with Earlham at 4 p.m. from Henry Field in Hiram, OH.
