Darren Chiang Sets Program Record With 52 Assists In 1st Home Win Of Season

Chiang Brothers Fuel Win At Price Gymnasium

HIRAM, Ohio - February 7, 2026 - Hiram claimed its first win at home in a rematch against Hilbert by a final score of 25-19, 25-16, 20-25, 25-15 inside Price Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. The victory not only was the team's first at home, but it also provided a nice spark leading into the start of PAC play next week.

Highlighting the match was Darren Chiang, who set the program record with 52 assists in his return to the starting lineup. Chiang passed his former teammate, Matthew Albano, who had the previous record with 51 assists at Grove City in April 2025.

Throughout sets one and two, the Terriers had multiple scoring runs, keeping the Hawks well out of reach from taking either set. The Terriers finished each set in convincing fashion, winning 25-19 and 25-16 behind a combined 31 kills during that span.

Hilbert battled back in the third set, as the team found its range with 12 kills and eventually pulled out a 7-point scoring run en route to a 25-20 win in the third set.

Hiram responded to that adversity and bounced back significantly, finishing things out at 25-15 to take home the win on their home court.

Other notable performances included senior Derek Chiang, who posted a season-high 23 kills and just three attack errors. Cullen Sivak and Collin Brooks also put up a combined 22 kills in Saturday afternoon's matchup.

Darren Chiang beat his previous career-best of 49 assists, which came last Saturday against Penn State Altoona. He helped fuel a Terriers attack that had more than 10 kills in every set.

The Terriers are back in action on Wednesday, in Beaver Falls, PA, when they open PAC play against Geneva at 7 p.m.
