HIRAM, Ohio – February 4, 2026 – Hiram men's basketball came within seconds of pulling off a dramatic victory, but a game-tying layup in the final seconds of the second half ultimately led to a 74-73 overtime loss to Thiel on Wednesday evening at Price Gymnasium.
The Terriers led by as many as 13 points in the first half and 10 points in the second half, controlling the game behind consistent offense from Collin Jones and a wide array of contributions from the rest of the team. Eight different Terriers players scored at least 4 points.
Thiel made its move late in the second half, as the Tomcats closed the second half on a 14-7 run to tie the game at 66-66. John DiCecco capped off the rally with a nice move in the lane to earn a layup with just under four seconds left in regulation.
Jones scored all 7 of Hiram's points in overtime, including a dunk that gave the Terriers a 73-70 lead with 1:56 left to play. A pair of Thiel layups proved to be the only remaining offense in the game, as the slow-paced Tomcats stepped up on the defensive end and swarmed Hiram to earn the victory.
Jones finished with 24 points on 10-18 shooting, while Dushawn Hill led an efficient bench unit with 11 points. DJ Niles tied a career-high with four blocks (also on Jan. 10 vs Bethany), while Drovinsky Ulysse grabbed eight rebounds, two steals and one block.
The Terriers will be back on the court on Saturday, when they travel to Waynesburg, PA for a PAC battle with Waynesburg; tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
