HIRAM, Ohio - February 25, 2026 - Hiram men's volleyball dropped its Wednesday evening battle against Saint Vincent in four sets: 25-20, 25-14, 27-29, 29-27. The complexion of the match changed drastically in the third set, with the Terriers putting forth an all-out effort into keeping points alive and consistently turning digs into kills. The team won a lengthy third set and then had three set points to send it to a fifth set, but ultimately the Bearcats prevailed inside Price Gymnasium.
In a rematch of the 2024 AMCC Tournament Championship, the Terriers couldn't muster the magic to extend their winning streak to four games. Hiram had won each of the last three matches between the two teams dating back to that memorable AMCC title in April 2024.
Leading the way for the Terriers was Darren Chiang, who tallied 34Â assists and added an emphatic solo block. Kekoa Tani spearheaded the offensive numbers with 11Â kills, while his first-year teammate, Liam Dwyer, had 10Â kills and three blocks. Colin Brooks was the spark plug for the team, posting 10 kills of his own.
Saint Vincent took control of the match from the outset, winning the first set behind a .222 hitting percentage (13 kills, seven attack errors) and the second set behind a .229 hitting percentage (13 kills, five attack errors). For the entire game, three different Bearcats players had at least 14 kills: Zebadiah Wyant (20), Shawn McSwiggen (14) and Owen Ward (14).
Hiram found a spark at the start and end of the third set, jumping out to a 5-1 lead and eventually holding onto an 11-10 advantage despite a rally from Saint Vincent. The road team then won each of the next five points, but the Terriers again answered with an 18-12 run to finish the set. Brooks and Tani each had three kills during that span to ignite the home crowd against one of the best teams in the conference.
The opposition lived up to its record late in the fourth set, saving three set points to preserve the win in four sets. Hiram led 24-23, 25-24 and 26-25 before the Bearcats relinquished the momentum.
The Terriers will return to PAC competition on Saturday, when they play Maranatha Baptist and Adrian for a pair of matches beginning at 12 p.m. in Adrian, MI.
