HIRAM, Ohio – January 10, 2026 – The Hiram men's basketball team hosted the Bison of Bethany College for a Saturday afternoon matchup at Price Gymnasium. The Terriers ended up defeating the Bison behind an offensive explosion as a team, 88-83. The win marks Hiram's first PAC win since 1989, as they have returned to full-time competition in the conference this season.Â
The Terriers earned this victory, with 10 different players entering the scoring column and five different players scoring 12+ points in way to a hard-fought victory. The Terriers picked up a crucial PAC win with a true team effort in Saturday's victory, and now are tied for fifth in the PAC North Division.
Leading the way in scoring for the Terriers was Brock Makrancy, who finished with 14 points while shooting 5-8 from the field and 3-5 from behind the arch. Makrancy continues to shoot lights out, as he averages 51.4% from the field and 50% from behind the arch.
Finishing with a double-double was DJ Niles, who dropped 13 points and grabbed an impressive 11 rebounds. This marks the second double-double for Niles in 2026, also finishing with one against Penn St Behrend. Also with an impressive performance was Josh Martin, who finished with 13 points and 7-8 from the free throw line. Finally, dropping 12 points each were both Collin Jones and Dushawn Hill.
Keying the victory was a scoring run to start the second half, as Hiram went on a 14-4 run over the first 4:32 of game time. Makrancy had 8 points during that span, including two 3-pointers, before Niles capped off the run with a 3-pointer of his own. The rally gave Hiram a 54-40 advantage, which was the largest margin by either team throughout the contest.
The Terriers later followed with a 10-2 run to grab a 70-56 lead with 8:23 remaining, and were able to hold their ground through the final buzzer. It was a chippy game, with the two teams combining for a pair of technical fouls in the second half, but Hiram found its way and never trailed over the final 20 minutes.
The Terriers will be back in action on Wednesday, when they travel to Westminster College for another PAC battle, with the tip-off set for 8 p.m.Â
