HIRAM, Ohio - September 27, 2025 – The momentum train kept on rolling for the Hiram women's volleyball team on Saturday, as the Terriers beat Saint Vincent in three sets and produced a magnificent, come-from-behind effort to top Mount Union in five sets as part of the Terriers tri-match at Price Gymnasium.
The two victories – the second of which included two match points saved – give Hiram a 10-match winning streak, which is tied for the team's longest win streak over the last 10 seasons (won first 10 games of 2018 season). The team will hope to reach its program-record 15-game win streak from the 2007 season, when the program eventually earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Match One: Hiram vs. Saint Vincent
Hiram had a smooth run in the opening match, sweeping the Bearcats: 25-11, 25-13, 25-23. The victory earned the Terriers a 4-0 record in conference play.
The Terriers did find some trouble in the third set, where Saint Vincent led in the late stages, 22-20, but Hiram swooped in and won five of the last six points to secure the sweep. Junior Maggie Riley had the perfect touch on the game-winning kill to punctuate the match.
First-years Megan Chiang and Sofia Smotek put up a combined 33 kills throughout the match and only committed one error apiece for a hitting percentage of .444 and .455 respectively. Kelly Hoffman added 36 assists and Brooke Fishback had a team-high 17 digs.
Riley made moves in the backcourt defense with 12 digs, proving her value as a versatile player both on offense and defense.
With the win, Hiram kept its top spot on the North Division leaderboard.
Match Two: Hiram vs. Mount Union
The Terriers were just one point away from suffering their first loss in nearly a month, as Mount Union had a 24-22 lead after winning the first two sets of the match. It was a tough challenge up to that point for the Terriers, who had an 8-1 lead in the first set and a 13-12 lead in the second set before falling in a 2-0 hole.
The third set appeared to follow a similar trajectory until Hiram came through while facing that double match point deficit. Chiang notched a kill and Mount Union committed an attack error to level the score at 24-24; Fishback then served an ace and Chiang recorded a set-winning kill to keep the Terriers alive and shift all momentum in their direction.
That clutch play was just the spark Hiram needed, as it cruised to a 25-16 win in the fourth set and control most of the fifth set, which shaped out to be a 15-7 win.
Chiang finished with a team-high 14 kills, while Kelly Hoffman had 40 assists and a season-high 32 digs. Fishback also had 25 digs, helping Hiram finish with 118 digs in the match, which is tied for its seventh-most in a single match in program history.
