HIRAM, Ohio – September 24, 2025 – Hiram men's soccer defeated Thiel College, 2-0, on Wednesday evening at Henry Field. This marks Hiram's fifth win of the season and its first win in PAC play.
The Terriers looked like they were going to head to halftime at a stalemate, but a late goal broke the tie and opened the scoring, which continued into the second half. Two goals from the Terriers were all they needed to secure a much-needed first PAC win of the 2025 season. The defense and goalkeeping also proved to be too much for the scrappy Thiel offense, as they have now recorded their fourth consecutive clean sheet at home.
The first half was not limited to action, by any means, but the Terriers backline and goalkeeping by Derek Ufholz were stout in their defensive play.
Late in the first half, Hiram secured a corner-kick and did not miss its chance as Taeven Genovese slotted a corner kick into the box, where Erik Rangel Negrete found it and headed the ball home with six seconds left in the first half. The leading goal scorer of the Terriers last season had official scored his first goal of 2025.
The Terriers were not done scoring.
Midway through the second half, Carmine Boscarello secured a penalty in the 78th minute when a handball from the Thiel defender gave Hiram the chance to put the game away. Boscarello stepped up and calmly slotted the penalty home to give Hiram a two-goal lead, which held strong through the final whistle.
Hiram men's soccer will continue their 2025 season with another PAC matchup on Saturday afternoon, when they travel to Washington, PA to face the Presidents of Washington & Jefferson College for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
