Clutch 2nd Half Propels Terriers To 2-0 Victory Over MSJ

Hiram Goalkeeping, Offense Executes Over Final 45 Minutes

HIRAM, Ohio – September 17, 2025 - The Hiram men's soccer team secured a 2-0 victory over Mount St Joseph University on Wednesday evening at Henry Field to capture its third win of the season.

The Terriers were deadlocked heading into the halfway mark and midway through the second half until the relentless Terrier attack finally broke through to open up the scoring. Those two goals proved to be the difference in the game, as the stellar Terriers defense and goalkeeping recorded a clean sheet in front of a roaring home crowd.

The first half of play was dominated by the Terriers' strong backline and goalkeeping. In the early second half, it took two beautiful saves from goalkeeper Derek Ufholz to keep the score at 0-0.

With the score tied at zero, the Terriers attack finally seized their chance, when Colin Casey struck an unassisted goal into the back of the net to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead.

"It was a good press from Alex (Lineen) to get back the ball," Casey said. "I ended up taking the ball off of him and had a nice finish."

The Terriers were not yet done with their scoring.

In the 69th minute, Reginal Johnson drew a foul inside the box to secure a penalty kick. Alex Lineen calmly slotted the penalty home, which was his 3rd goal of the season to give the Terriers a 2-0 lead. That was all Hiram needed to close out the stingy in-state opponent.

"I'm very happy," said head coach Joe Chmura about his team's resilience after being tied at halftime. "I told the guys that these next two games against Mount St Joseph and Saturday vs Pitt-Bradford were crucial to get some momentum heading into conference play. It was a good show of resilience and composure."

Hiram men's soccer will be back in action on Saturday for Senior Day, when they host Pitt-Bradford at Henry Field for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
