Hiram Pitching Spearheads Team To 2 Home Wins Over Thiel

Licursi, Kinnaird Highlight Pitching, While Walker Jr. Ties Single-Season Hits Record

HIRAM, Ohio – April 30, 2025 – Hiram had one of its best days of pitching this season on Wednesday afternoon, as Nick Licursi and Braeden Kinnaird highlighted a doubleheader sweep of Thiel at Fishel Field, 4-1 and 3-1.

Licursi worked four innings of one-run ball to start Game 1, while Kinnaird logged career-highs in innings pitched (5.2) and strikeouts (7) as part of a scoreless outing to win Game 2. The Terriers also picked up two of their five saves for the season, with Sam Boyle and Cody Horvath logging quality work in the late innings to get their team back on track.

In the midst of the pitching clinic, Hal Walker Jr. officially moved into a tie with Mike Dobran (1998) for the most hits in a single season in program history (63). Walker Jr. doubled to lead off Game 1 and laced a single in Game 2, putting him just one hit away from breaking the prestigious record.

In Game 1, Hiram made its biggest move in the fifth inning, when Tyler Fernandez singled home a run to give his team a 2-1 lead. Luke Snider followed with a sacrifice fly and Chaisson Marrs singled in Fernandez to carve out a 4-1 advantage, which held through the final out.

After Licursi finished with a final line of 4 IP, 4 H, 1 R/ER, 1 BB, 2 K, Noah Brown followed with a scoreless inning to earn his second win of the year. Boyle then pitched the final two frames, surrendering just one hit during that span to earn the save.

Game 2 followed a similar formula, as Kinnaird filled in for Tyler Milnes in a long-relief role for a seven-inning game. The freshman southpaw dazzled with full command of the strike zone, finishing with a final line of 5.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R/ER, 1 BB, 7 K. Kinnaird didn't surrender more than two baserunners in any of his innings of work.

Despite trailing through four innings, 1-0, the Terriers again got the bats going with a three-run fifth frame. Snider led off the inning with a double, advanced to third base on a bunt and came around to score on a game-tying, hard-hit single up the middle by Ethan Ryan.

Ben Yoder and Walker Jr. continued the rally with a single and walk respectively, loading the bases for Logan Gallentine. The junior middle-infielder delivered in many ways, knocking in Ryan on a fielder's choice and then helping Yoder score on a rundown from a stolen-base attempt.

Those three runs were plenty for Kinnaird and Horvath, who combined for over six shutout innings. Horvath faced a bases-loaded jam in the seventh, but a flyout to center field brought Game 2 to an exciting finish.

The Terriers will next host DePauw on Saturday for the final games of the season; Game 1 is slated for a first pitch of 12 p.m. Ahead of that start time, Hiram will honor 13 seniors and four graduate students as part of the Senior Day festivities.
