Kanno, Santellan Spearhead Terriers In DH Sweep Over Wooster

Senior Duo Finds Success In Circle, Batter's Box On Thursday

HIRAM, Ohio - April 3, 2025 - Hiram started the NCAC portion of its schedule on a high note, sweeping Wooster, 3-1 and 4-3, on Thursday afternoon at Myrtis E. Herndon Field.

The two wins improve the Terriers' record to a season-best 12-6 and 2-0 in conference play; Denison and Wittenberg are the other two teams in the conference with a 2-0 record against NCAC teams this season.

Game 1 Recap

Darian Kanno continued to climb the all-time wins leaderboard, as she pitched a complete game and earned the victory for the ninth straight outing. Wooster cracked the scoring column with an unearned run in the fourth, but Kanno did more than enough to keep her unbeaten record intact: 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 10 K.

Hiram totaled three runs between the fourth and fifth innings, with Danielle Robles (two hits) and Kanno (one hit) finding themselves in the middle of the offense. Kanno eventually finished it off in the circle to earn the victory in the conference opener.

With the victory, Kanno now has 43 career wins. She is closing in on Hall of Famer Whitney Dropsey's program record (44 wins) and earning the prestigious title of being the winningest pitcher in Hiram history.

Game 2 Recap

Angel Santellan made her season debut in the circle in Game 2, delivering an effective five innings to give her team a chance for the sweep. The senior stranded seven runners on base and finished with a strong line of 5 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 0 K.

Lillie Greene filled in admirably for Santellan, working out of the sixth inning to keep it a three-run deficit.

Then came the Terriers offense, which tallied four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 4-3 lead. Robles had a key bunt single to load the bases before Daynna Mekaru knocked in a run on a bunt and Santellan delivered the decisive blow with a two-run, two-out single.

Greene set down three of the four hitters she faced in the seventh to close out the game and earn the second win of her collegiate career.
