HIRAM, Ohio – March 25, 2025 – Hiram launched three home runs and erased a seven-run deficit enroute to an 11-9 victory in its home opener against Pitt-Greensburg on Tuesday afternoon at Fishel Field.
Hal Walker Jr., Logan Gallentine and Luke Snider each left the yard, while Noah Brown logged three shutout innings of relief in his season debut to propel the Terriers back to a .500 record on the spring season. Landin Wescott capped off the game and earned his second save in an inning that had four strikeouts.
Hiram now has a season-long three-game win streak, with another non-conference game separating the team from the start of conference play.
Pitt-Greensburg jumped ahead, 4-0 in the second inning and 9-2 in the third inning, thanks to a pair of home runs and a two-run double from the middle of its batting order. Starter Jacob Koces was charged with four unearned runs during that span, but settled in and retired the last seven hitters he faced to give his team a chance to come back.
The Terriers did just that, as the offensive outburst began with the first career home run off the bat of Snider in the second inning, a two-run shot to the deepest part of the ballpark in center field. Walker Jr. followed with a solo shot of his own over that same center-field wall, cutting the deficit to 9-3.
From the start of the fourth inning through the final pitch, Hiram outscored its opposition, 8-0. That rally began with a five-run fourth inning, which included four RBI singles from Ben Yoder, Chaisson Marrs, Walker Jr. and Tyler Fernandez (2 RBI).
In the sixth frame, Hiram tied the game on a wild pitch and took the lead on an RBI double from Snider. A solo home run from Gallentine in the eighth inning provided just the insurance the Terriers needed to close out the game.
Aside from the offense, the relief pitching of the home team keyed the come-from-behind win; Brown tied his career-long outing with three shutout innings before Wescott struck out four batters (one reached on passed ball) and stranded the tying run at the plate to get the save.
With the victory, Hiram has won nine of the last 12 games against the Bobcats dating back to the start of the 2013 season.
The Terriers will next travel to Greenville, PA for a non-conference matchup with Thiel on Thursday at 2 p.m. The team will then open conference play this weekend at Wabash.
