High-Scoring Game Ends In Nail-Biting Loss For Hiram

Terriers Fall In Road Battle With Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio - March 19, 2025 - Hiram came one out away from a non-conference victory over Heidelberg, but the Student Princes recorded a hit in each of their final three at-bats in a 12-11 loss on Wednesday late afternoon.

Logan Gallentine launched his first career home run and finished with a career-high six RBI, while Hal Walker Jr. recorded his fourth game this season with at least three hits in the high-scoring affair. Starter Jacob Koces worked a quality start with just three earned runs allowed over six innings, but Heidelberg scored seven runs over the final three innings to claim the win.

Gallentine's long ball came in the fourth inning, a three-run shot to even the score at 4-4. Hiram added another two runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 6-5 lead, putting Koces in line to earn the win with a final line of 6 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K.

The back-and-forth affair stayed true to form for the remainder of the contest, with 10 different scoring plays over those final three innings. The Terriers extended their lead to three runs in the seventh innings thanks to an Evan Fairbanks RBI and a successful double steal.

After Heidelberg regained a 9-8 lead, Hiram bounced back with three runs in the top of the ninth inning; Tyler Fernandez knocked in Walker Jr. on an RBI single and Gallentine added insurance with a two-run single just three plate appearances later. Hiram had an 11-9 lead with just three outs to go.

The Student Princes found the two-out magic to seal the game, with a single, two-run double and RBI single turning the game over once again to a 12-11 loss.

Hiram will return to action on Sunday, when it travels to Latrobe, PA for a doubleheader with Saint Vincent beginning at 1 p.m.
