Hiram Falls in Five-Set Battle Against Chatham

Albano’s 49 Assists Highlight Terriers’ Hard-Fought Effort

HIRAM, Ohio - March 14, 2025 – The Hiram men's volleyball team put up a strong fight in a back-and-forth match against Chatham, but ultimately fell short in five sets on Friday night at Price Gymnasium.

Hiram had a balanced offensive attack, led by Derek Chiang, who delivered a standout performance with 20 kills while hitting .432, and Dakotah Welsh, who added 13 kills. Jackson Deubner and Cullen Sivak each contributed key points at the net, and setter Matthew Albano tied his own program record with 49 assists (49 assists at Penn State Behrend on Mar. 30, 2024 last season).

Defensively, Hiram saw strong efforts from Connor Tilton and Albano, who collectively amassed 32 digs. Garrett Scheidegger played a key role at the net, registering three total blocks while adding six kills on an efficient .500 hitting percentage.

Despite forcing a decisive fifth set, the Terriers couldn't complete the season sweep over Chatham, as the Cougars made crucial plays down the stretch to take the final set, 15-11.

Hiram will look to bounce back as they continue conference play on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. against Grove City in Price Gymnasium.
