Hiram Battles Back In 3rd Set, Earns Hard-Fought Victory At Grove City

Martini Has Big Night To Earn Another Critical Road Win

GROVE CITY, Pennsylvania - February 26, 2025 - Hiram got one of its biggest in-conference challenges of the season on Wednesday night, as the Terriers lost their first set to a PAC opponent but bounced back and held on for a four-set win over Grove City inside College Arena: 25-20, 19-25, 25-23, 25-19.

At one point, Hiram was facing a 9-point deficit with the match even at 1-1 in sets won; the Terriers later racked up 6 straight points and eventually won the third set, 25-23. That momentum continued into the fourth set, which proved to be the Terriers' best set – and clinching set – of the match.

Kyle Martini had one of his best matches of 2025, recording season-highs in kills (13) and digs (nine). Cullen Sivak led Hiram in digs (12) and services aces (two), while Garrett Scheidegger had his third match of the season with seven total blocks.

In that critical point in the third set, Hiram was facing a 13-4 deficit, as well as the pressure of winning a conference match in a tough road environment. A Scheidegger block started a 3-0 run, and the serve of Sivak fueled a separate 6-0 run to make it a 16-16 score. The remainder of the set had a back-and-forth nature to it, but Hiram secured the 2-1 advantage in the match thanks to a pair of kills by both Martini and Derek Chiang.

The Terriers then registered a .233 hitting percentage in the fourth set (13 kills, six attack errors), a span that never saw the road team face a deficit. Hiram jumped out to a 12-5 lead and closed it out with a 25-19 win, highlighted by another five kills from the veteran leader in Martini.

Not only does the victory keep Hiram's undefeated record in PAC play alive (3-0), but it also gives the Terriers a boost ahead of a one-month stretch that is entirely composed of home matches at Price Gymnasium.

Hiram will begin that seven-match span on Friday, when it hosts Geneva at 7 p.m. in another PAC clash.
