CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio – December 2, 2025 – Hiram returned to the ice with an 8-1 loss to a talented Buffalo State team on Tuesday late afternoon at The Pond.
The Terriers' Sam West scored his first goal of the campaign, while Markus Olson picked up his first assist on a breakaway goal midway through the third period. For Olson, the assist gave him 3 points on the season, which trails only Tyler Arthurs (4) for the most on the team.
Not only did the goal provide a late spark for Hiram, but it also marked its first goal over two games of action against the Bengals, who entered play with quite a resume. Â Buffalo State had previously beaten SUNY Brockport and Fredonia, while also nearing a victory in a 6-5 overtime loss to the No. 5 ranked team in all of Division III, SUNY Geneseo.
The opposition improved to 4-3-1 for the 2025-26 season, with seven different players recording at least one goal. Don Powell led the way with a game-high two goals, while Vadim Kiriakov and Tyler Penree each had two assists.
Hiram's Anthony Arthurs and Shane Ward spearheaded the offensive effort with a combined six shots on goal, while Connor Randell was active on the defensive end (three blocks). In goal, Ian Amaranto and Mark Paton combined for 41 saves.
The Terriers have an exciting week ahead, as they will next travel to the Pegula Ice Arena on the campus of Penn State University for a two-game series against Salve Regina. The two team's clash on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday at 12 p.m. in University Park, PA.
