Hiram Falls Short In Comeback Attempt vs Grove City

Late Goal By Terriers Provides Spark

HIRAM, Ohio – October 8, 2025 – The Hiram men's soccer team fell, 4-1, to Grove City on Wednesday evening, marking the team's second home loss of the season. The Terriers fought hard against a stingy Wolverines team, but Grove City proved to be a tough opponent, with its record improving to 4-0-1 in PAC play.

The Wolverines jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the first half, but the Terriers did not give up. Fighting and pressing the Wolverine backline, the Terrier attack finally broke through late in the second half to give Hiram a fighting chance to stay alive.

Hiram continued to improve throughout the game, recording nine shots in the second half and five shots on goal for the entire game. Then, in the 79th minute, the Terriers broke through when a shot that deflected off of the goalkeeper's hands found the foot of Erik Rangel Negrete, who slotted home a goal to make it 3-1. It was the sophomore's second goal of the season, who would need one more to match his 2024 total already.

Grove City would eventually add one more goal to seal a victory, but not without the pressure of the Hiram attack constantly trying to score another goal.

Hiram men's soccer will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, when they travel to Allegheny College for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
