HIRAM, Ohio - October 22, 2025 – The Terriers kept their home win streak alive and improved to 10-1 in PAC play with a five-set win over the Allegheny Gators on Wednesday evening: 25-14,20-25, 25-13, 24-26, 15-11. The victory, which secures a season sweep over the preseason No. 1 team and the reigning PAC Tournament champions, extends Hiram's home winning streak this season to eight games.
Hiram was spearheaded by
Megan Chiang, who set a new career-high with 27 kills, which also is tied for the fourth-most in a single match in program history. Only three performances have had more kills: Marissa Jay vs John Carroll in 2016 (34), Jay vs CWRU in 2016 (32) and Kiara Franks vs CWRU in 2017 (28).
Also chipping in wasÂ
Maggie Riley with 17 kills and
Sofia Smotek with 12 kills.
Kelly Hoffman had 47 assists and
Brooke Fishback had a match-high 25 digs to seal the win.
Even with the Gators impressive blocking efforts, the Terriers found a way to break through in a match that was defined by back-and-forth action. Hiram dominated the first and third sets, but the Gators won the second and fourth sets to force a decider. In that fourth set, Hiram had 18 kills and erased an 8-2 deficit, but the Gators saved a match point and went on to win the set, 26-24.
In the fifth set, the Terriers were the ones who took control, as 11 of their 15 points came on kills. Included in that total was seven kills from Chiang and Smotek, with Smotek recording back-to-back kills on the final two points to bring the match to a close and secure the conference win and push the Terriers to 10-1 in conference play and 18-2 overall. The Terriers also enter the weekend riding a six-match win streak.
Next on the schedule for the Terriers is a road tri-match in Washington, PA, as they'll take on Washington and Jefferson and Wilmington College on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
