Hiram Goes On 15-3 Run In 1st Set, Cruises To Victory Over Chatham

Terriers Gain Sole Possession Of 1st Place In PAC North Division

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania – October 18, 2025 – The Terriers kept rolling on Saturday afternoon, as they swept Chatham to improve to 9-1 in PAC play and gain sole possession of first place in the PAC North Division: 25-15, 25-22, 25-23.

Hiram had more kills than its opposition in all three sets, and fewer attack errors than its opposition in each of the first two sets. Despite the loss, Chatham remains the No. 1 team in the PAC South Division, with an 8-2 record in PAC matches this season. The Terriers also became the first PAC team to sweep the Cougars in 2025.

Maggie Riley (15 kills), Megan Chiang (13) and Sofia Smotek (11) each had a double-digit total for kills, while first-year Cyd'ni Taylor-Lewins broke out with a career-high six total blocks. Each of those four student-athletes are in their first year with the Hiram women's volleyball program.

The experience of setter Kelly Hoffman and libero Brooke Fishback also played a key role, with Hoffman totaling 36 assists and 23 digs, and Fishback notching five assists and 19 digs. Smotek capped off the defensive unit – which held Chatham to a .043 attack percentage (30 kills, 23 attack errors – with 20 digs of her own.

Hiram trailed in the first set, 10-5, before rattling off 12 of the next 14 points to gain a level of momentum that couldn't be stopped. The team ended up finishing the first set on a stunning 15-3 run, silencing the home crowd and putting the team in the driver's seat for another conference win.

That goal was accomplished in the final two sets, as Chatham couldn't gain a lead larger than two points during that span. Even when the Cougars recorded 13 kills in the third set, Hiram responded by totaling 17 kills of its own to seal the match in decisive fashion.

The Terriers return to action on Wednesday, with a big match against the Allegheny College Gators at 6 p.m. inside Price Gymnasium in Hiram, OH.
