DELAWARE, Ohio - January 8, 2025 - The Hiram men's basketball team dropped a road affair on Wednesday evening, as the Terriers shot 52% from the field but lost, 88-68, to Ohio Wesleyan inside Branch Rickey Arena.
Galdan Batzorig had team-highs in points (9) and assists (three, T-most) off the bench, while Trent Jakacki, Manuel Devora Violan and Ivan Yang each had 8 points in the starting lineup. Turnovers proved to be the difference in the NCAC battle, with Ohio Wesleyan scoring 31 points off turnovers throughout the contest.
The Terriers held the upper hand at the outset, grabbing 9-4 and 12-7 leads over the first four minutes of action. OWU then went on an 8-0 run, with two of its seven 3-pointers in the first half coming during that span.
Another 12-0 run came later in the half, giving the Battling Bishops the momentum they needed to hold a double-digit lead through the intermission. Henry Hinkle had 12 of his game-high 23 points in the first half.
Hiram's perimeter defense was a step up in the second half, with the opposition shooting 19% (3-16) on 3-pointers over the last 20 minutes. Jaden Hameed added 5 points of his 7 points in the period, but OWU maintained its double-digit lead and secured the NCAC victory.
The Terriers will have a big opportunity on Saturday, when they host Kenyon at 3 p.m. inside Price Gymnasium.
