Hiram Defense Makes Statement In 2nd Half Of Loss To Kenyon

Terriers Drop Conference Battle Inside Price Gymnasium

HIRAM, Ohio - January 11, 2025 - A strong second half gave Hiram something to build on against Kenyon on Saturday late afternoon, as the Terriers held the Owls to a 32% FG pct in the final 20 minutes of an 87-75 loss at Price Gymnasium.

Manuel Devora Violan had a season-high 17 points, while also contributing on the defensive end with two steals and one block. Trent Jakacki and Brock Makrancy each had 12 points, and Tristan Martin-Marshall was a force in the interior with 7 points and three blocks.

The Kenyon trio of Jackson Maloney (24 points), Marius Mazeika (21) and Gefen Bar-Cohen (20) were the fuel for the visitors, who jumped out to a 12-point lead at the intermission and did just enough to hold onto that lead through the final buzzer.

Hiram started by grabbing a 9-5 lead, an early burst of momentum that was highlighted by a Jakacki dunk and a Devora Violan 3-pointer. Kenyon answered with a 12-0 run and rode an offense that shot over 60% in the first half, which ended in a 52-40 deficit.

The Terriers tightened up on the defensive end in the second half and found a balanced offensive approach, but the double-digit was too big to climb out of in the end.

Hiram will return to NCAC action on Wednesday, when it travels to Oberlin, OH for a conference clash with the Yeomen at 8 p.m. inside Philips Gymnasium.
