BEAVER FALLS,, Pennsylvania - September 14, 2024 - The Hiram men's soccer team put on a defensive clinic on Saturday evening against Geneva, holding the opposition to just four shots on goal in a match that ended in a 0-0 tie at Reeves Field.
Tyler Jurgensen earned his first shutout of the season, while the starting defensive unit of Colin Rieger, Simon Schonfeld and Cooper Williams held their own against a Golden Tornadoes team that had won each of their first four matches of the 2024 season.
It was a match defined by physical play on the defensive end, with the two teams combining for 21 shots in the contest. Hiram's Bedo Kusuni had a team-high two shots.
Jurgensen earned four saves, two of which came in each half. The defense also did a good job in defending corner kicks, with all eight of Geneva's corner kicks failing to turn into any production.
Hiram will look to earn a victory when it returns home for a matchup against Allegheny on Monday at 7 p.m. from Henry Field in Hiram, Ohio.
