HIRAM, Ohio – June 5, 2024 – Hiram Athletics announced the hiring of Tyler North as its new head men's volleyball coach earlier this week. North takes over a program that won the AMCC Tournament Championship this past season under Glen Conley, who retired at the end of the 2023-24 academic year.

"We are excited to have Tyler take over our men's volleyball program," Director of Athletics Scott Pohlman said. "He brings championship experience to the table and will have those same aspirations with our men's volleyball season for this season and beyond."

North previously served as the head coach of the Thiel College women's volleyball team from 2017-23. During his time with the Tomcats, he led the program to its first PAC regular-season title in 2022 and had winning records in conference play in three of his six seasons at the helm. Thiel had 19 all-conference selections, including the PAC Newcomer of the Year in 2021, under the leadership of North.

Prior to Thiel, North was the assistant coach for a dominant SUNY Brockport women's volleyball team from 2014 to 2017. The Golden Eagles went 90-18 with North on their staff, which included conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances in both 2015 and 2016. SUNY Brockport had 12 all-conference student-athletes, one Player of the Year, one Rookie of the Year and four All-Americans during that span.

"I want to thank the search committee, especially (Hiram Director of Volleyball Operations) Brittany Dye and the athletes, for choosing me to be the next leader of the men's volleyball program," North said. "I'm looking forward to building on the success of the program and continue to be a contender as we move to the PAC next year."

Hiram men's volleyball tied its longest win streak in program history this past season, winning nine straight matches and claiming a second AMCC Tournament title in the process. The team lost in the NCAA Tournament to the defending champion Stevens Ducks but finished with four all-conference student-athletes and set the stage for an exciting 2025 campaign, where it will compete in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) for the first time.

As a student-athlete himself, North played club volleyball from 2013 to 2016 at SUNY Brockport, where the team won three state championships. He earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and a master's degree in education (concentration in athletic administration) in 2017, both of which came during his time at SUNY Brockport.

The Terriers men's volleyball team will begin its new chapter under North in 2024-25, as student-athletes enjoy the summer break before returning to campus in August.
