BEREA, Ohio – April 25, 2024 - Hiram went down to the wire against the No. 4 team in Division III baseball on Thursday afternoon, nearly pulling off a major upset in a 4-0 loss to Baldwin Wallace at Fisher Field.
Jacob Koces was the star of the show in the non-conference clash, tossing six innings of one-run ball to give his team a chance to win. Koces had posted six strong innings against the Yellow Jackets in 2023, too, when they were also ranked as a top-five team in the country.
Landin Wescott pitched 1.1 frames of scoreless relief to cap off a remarkable day for the Terriers pitching staff.
Baldwin Wallace did the majority of its damage in the seventh inning, with four singles fueling a three-run rally. Hiram had runners in scoring position in six of the game's nine innings, but couldn't crack the scoring column in the tightly contested matchup.
Ethan Ryan and
Logan Gallentine each had doubles to lead the offense.
Hiram will return to the diamond on Saturday, when it hosts Wooster for Senior Day beginning at 12 p.m. from Fishel Field in Hiram, Ohio.
