Hiram Finishes Weekend With Losses To St. Norbert, Adrian

Albano Leads Team In Assists, Aces & Digs

ADRIAN, Michigan – March 9, 2024 - The Hiram men's volleyball team lost twice on Saturday while in Michigan, as it took on some tough competition in the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center. The Terriers fell in five sets to St. Norbert College and in three sets to Adrian College.

Match 1 Recap (St. Norbert 3, Hiram 2)

The game was neck-and-neck through the first four sets with Hiram winning the first set then St. Norbert winning the next. The teams kept the back-and-forth rhythm in the next two sets. It was not until the final set where St. Norbert was able to take control of the match and win, 15-7.

Despite the loss, Hiram managed to have more digs (57 to 55) and more aces (12 to 6) than its opponent. Connor Tilton led Hiram in kills (16), while Matthew Albano had a team-high in assists (44), digs (15), aces (five) and  blocks (two).

Hiram played well during Saturday's matchup and the play in the first and third sets kept the team in contention for the win, as it won those sets thanks to the play of Garrett Scheidegger, who had 10 kills and one block.

Match 2 Recap (Adrian 3, Hiram 0)

The Terriers played a team that they have met once so far this season back in January; on Saturday, Adrian was able to get the best of the Terriers yet again.

The Terriers fell in the first set (25-16) but were able to have a strong second set that went the distance, although they fell short in a set that ended with a score of 34-32. Hiram ended up losing the final set, 25-15.

The team was led by Jackson Deubner in kills (11), while  Albano led the team in assists (25).
