HIRAM, Ohio - March 12, 2024 - Hiram fought hard in four sets to come away with a victory against Wittenberg University inside Price Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
Â
The Terriers are now 12-11 after the win, with conference play coming up for the rest of the season.
Â
Kyle Martini had a great game for the Terriers, as he was able to lead the team in kills (15), blocks (three) and digs (11), while
Matthew Albano led the game in assists with 34.
Connor Tilton and
Jackson Deubner were also able to contribute, as they both had nine kills.
Â
Defensively, Hiram was able to hold their opponent to a .161 hitting percentage with a -.086 percentage in the final set. Wittenberg tied the game at 22-22 thanks to a 4-0 run late in the set, but the Terriers responded in a big way by winning four of the last six points to seal the victory against a team that had swept them earlier in the year.
Â
Hiram lost the second set after winning the first in a back-and-forth battle, but was able to regain the same momentum and push through the final two sets.
Â
During the final set, Hiram played some of its best defense, keeping multiple points alive and forcing Wittenberg into 10 attack errors, which put a lid on the dominant performance the Terriers had.
Â
The Terriers will be on the road for their next match, a conference game on Saturday at 12 p.m. against Wells College in Aurora, New York.Â
