Deubner Has Career-High 15 Kills In Convincing Victory Over Hilbert

Hiram Now 10-9 This Season, 2-1 In AMCC Play

HIRAM, Ohio - March 2, 2024 - Hiram rolled its way to a three-set win over Hilbert on Saturday afternoon at Price Gymnasium, as Jackson Deubner broke out for a career-high 15 kills to lift his team above .500 for the season.

The Terriers are now 2-1 in AMCC games this year and are one of two teams in the conference to have 10+ wins (Geneva, 13).

For Deubner, the performance marked one of the best in his two-year career with the program; his previous best was 14 kills against Kentucky State last season. Connor Tilton had 12 kills, while Garrett Scheidegger added seven kills and four service aces to round out the team's biggest production on the offensive end. Matthew Albano had 36 assists to bring his season total to 533.

Defensively, Hiram held its opposition to a .228 hitting percentage, including a .026 clip in the third set alone. Tilton finished off his well-rounded performance with a season-high 15 digs and Albano did the same with 12 digs.

The first set was back-and-forth, with neither team scoring more than three consecutive points for the duration of the set. Deubner was the difference in the end, recording a kill on three of his team's final four points, including the first set point.

The Terriers showcased their serving ability in the second set, with Scheidegger serving an ace on the first two points and Colin Brooks and Tilton later recording aces of their own. Tilton's ace came on set point, propelling the home team to a 2-0 lead in the match.

Hiram found a way to close it out in the third set, as it rattled off six straight points early in the set to take a commanding lead that would hold through the end of the match.

The Terriers will get nearly a week off before returning to the court on Friday against Olivet. The match is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Hathaway Court in Olivet, Michigan.
