CINCINNATI, Ohio - March 2, 2024 - The Hiram men's lacrosse team cracked the record books yet again, setting a program record for goals in a game as part of a 29-3 victory over Mount St. Joseph on Saturday afternoon at Schueler Field.
Brett Johnson tied the program record with eight goals, while William Luketich broke his previous two records with 27 faceoff wins and 18 ground balls. The Terriers had nine student-athletes score a goal in the game, with Johnson and Noah Pilgram each racking up 11 points in the dominant performance.
The win improves Hiram's record to 3-1 on the season, with a trip to North Carolina right around the corner for spring break.
The Terriers trailed 1-0 before scoring eight straight goals to take hold of the game. Ethan Mayer had three goals during that span, including a man-down goal, the team's first such score of the season.
Mount St. Joseph scored right before time expired in the first quarter before Hiram found its groove again and scored the next 17 goals in the game. Pilgram and Johnson were effective in scoring and distributing during the remarkable scoring run, while Aaron Gardner, Kellen Wetz, Trevor Nordstrom, Bricen Jones and Levi Willett also joined in on the action.
Johnson would cap off his career day with the team's final two goals in the fourth quarter, making him the second student-athlete in program history to score eight goals in a single game. Tim Stucky scored eight goals on two different occasions: vs Houghton in 2018 and vs Bethany in 2020.
Hiram will now take the next few days to prepare for a pair of games in North Carolina; the team will play Brevard College on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Pfeiffer University on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
