CRESSON, Pennsylvania - February 3, 2024 - The Hiram men's volleyball team couldn't have asked for a smoother start to the conference schedule, beating Mount Aloysius in straight sets on Saturday afternoon: 25-19, 25-14, 25-12.
The victory furthers a huge start to the 2024 season for Hiram; the team is now 6-2 on the season and has won at least two sets in all but one match.
Balance was the plan of attack for the Terriers, as the team had six different student-athletes with at least three kills: Jackson Deubner (eight), Connor Tilton (six), Garrett Scheidegger (five), Dakotah Welsh (four), Colin Brooks (three) and Kyle Martini (three). Matthew Albano notched 20 assists and Martini had five digs.
Hiram trailed 7-6 in the first set before rattling off a 7-0 scoring run to take a 13-7 lead. The team would only trail once for the remainder of the match, settling into a groove with all of its attackers and defense.
Once the team won the first set on the heels of a 5-2 scoring run, Hiram was able to settle in and take control of the match. Deubner highlighted the second set with five kills and six different student-athletes recorded a kill in the third set.
Welsh had all four of his kills in the final set to end the match in convincing fashion.
The Terriers will look to keep it rolling on Wednesday, when they travel to Beaver Falls, PA for a match against Geneva at 7 p.m. inside Metheny Fieldhouse.
